Thankfulness
In perspective, 1st Timothy 6:6-8 things beyond what we are commanded to be content with are extras we should be thankful for.
1st Chronicles 16:8-9 "Give thanks unto the LORD, call upon his name, make known his deeds among the people.[9] Sing unto him, sing psalms unto him, talk ye of all his wondrous works."
What is thankfulness?
It should be the immediate reaction to the realization of the blessings of God.
It is not faked.
Why is being thankful important?
It is required for proper praise and worship-Psalm 118:21 (praise is a product of a thankful heart) praise is telling others what God has done/ worship is thanking God directly
It is necessary to please God- Luke 6:35-36 unthankful/evil, Romans 1:21, Colossians 3:15
What gets in the way?
Pride- I should get blessed because I am me (kids at Christmas) Your less thankful for a good gift when you presumed you were going to get something else, (socks vs IPod)
Covetousness- Wanting what "they" have (Israel demanding a king) 1st Samuel 8:19-20
Greed- more more more (the manna) Numbers 11:1-6, 18-20, 31-33.
Forgetfulness- Deuteronomy 32:18, Matthew 16:7-10
Comfort- not understanding how much worse things can get, back to Israel and the manna, when they complained about manna instead of giving them quail God could have given them dung Ezekiel 4:12-15 or nothing at all.
Who?
God, Parents, siblings, teachers, pastors, friends, etc
What?
Blessings, little things others do, talents, opportunities, possessions, relationships
When?
Even when you don't want to...
Why?
God is pleased by thankful people, bonus, others are pleased when you show thankfulness towards them too.
Simple answer could also be because we do not deserve the things for which we should be thankful
You may be thankful for someone or something, but when is the last time you showed it?
