Week 9: Trustworthiness
Trust defined: Confidence; a reliance or resting of the mind on the integrity, veracity, justice, friendship or other sound principle of another person.
To be considered trustworthy one must prove to be faithful, honest, and loyal to the person or institution that puts their trust in them. Ex: A new employee is less likely to be trusted with more important jobs than one who has "proven themself" to be honest, faithful, and loyal.
As Christians we ought to have each of these attributes in our everyday lives, 2nd Corinthians 13:7
The greatest example: Matthew 12:21
Jesus is faithful- Matthew 4:1-11
Jesus is honest- 2nd Corinthians 5:21, There is not one statement Christ made that turned out to be false, He is Truth and spoke Truth. John 14:6
Jesus is loyal- Matthew 26:39-46, John 19:28-30, Jesus obeyed unto death, Philippians 2:8
Jesus is trustworthy- If God the father could trust His Son to carry out the plan of salvation for a wicked people, why do we struggle to trust Him?
Seeing Christ's example what has God trusted you with?
Noah was entrusted with building the ark, Moses was entrusted with leading God's people, Joseph and Mary were entrusted with bringing up Christ, so what is it that we have been trusted with? 2nd Peter 1:16-21.
The Gospel of Jesus Christ, the Word of God!
Luke 19:35-40, if God had wished He could have commanded the rocks, birds, or angels to preach the good news of Jesus Christ but He trusted it to us, Acts 1:8, 1st Corinthians 1:21.
I am not a pastor so what has God entrusted me with?
Mark 5:15-20, John 4:26-29, 39, we may not all be full time ministers, but God has trusted each and every one of His children with the spreading of His good news. Wether God's will is for you to be a farmer, soldier or baker, you first job should always be, witness.
Note: We should view any blessing from God as something He is trusting us with, do you use your car for Gods glory, your talent, your finances? James 1:17 Do you properly use what God has trusted you with?
How can I prove myself to be trustworthy?
Luke 16:10-13, be faithful in all things, Joshua 1:7-8 "ALL"
We must strive to be faithful to what God has entrusted us to do (be witnesses) 2nd Timothy 4:2, we must be honest in our lives, 1st Thessalonians 4:12, and we must be loyal to God above all others, Acts 5:29.
It is when we live faithful honest and loyal to God that we show ourselves to be truly worthy of trust, not just the trust of our employers, family, or friends, but of God. He has already trusted you with the knowledge of and access to His very Words, how trustworthy have we been with what He has trusted to us?
