Week 2: Obedient to the Word
Romans 6:16 "Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?"
Obedience to who? Isaiah 46:9. The God of the universe who is God alone!
Also see John 1:1-5, notice the capitol W this is Jesus Christ John 1:14, By obeying the word lower case w, we obey the Word upper case W. You cannot pretend to love the Word and live in disobedience to the word! John 14:15. As mentioned last week God will never "lead you" to do anything contrary to His word. So our obedience is to God the Father, God the Word, and God the Holy Spirit.
How do we obey God? Obey His word Basic, Instructions, Before, Leaving, Earth.
Learn His rules and keep them! Psalm 119:11
Love His word, (no empty obedience). Deuteronomy 26:16
Live to obey Him and none else, Acts 5:27-29
What is the word? Hebrews 4:12, Psalm 119:105, 160, 89.
Good works vs simple obedience. 1st Samuel 15:22
Well I obey here, but not there, I don't drink but I love my "christian" tattoo... Most things that carnal minded "christians" feeeel are ok are shattered by many verses including, Romans 12:2, Ephesians 4:17-20
To partially obey Gods word, is to completely disobey Gods Word. James 2:10-11.
What Jesus taught. John 14:15, Matthew 27:22-29
still today the people are astonished at the words and teachings of Jesus Christ! Worldly people call Gods word hateful, fairytales, fake, etc, and the carnal christian changes Gods word to meet his carnality. Revelations 22:18-19, etc.
Where does Gods word stand? Sadly today Gods word stands in second place to "feelings". "I just know in my heart that.... Gods word says Proverbs 28:26
What does the world (including "christians") think?
Galatians 5:7, the world attacks the inspiration and authority of Gods word, while carnal "christian" people and fans of Christ (not believers in Christ) make every attempt to "adjust" the bible to fit their carnal lifestyles, or to avoid "controversial" issues.
Jesus, our example of obedience.
He knew the law, walked in it, and used it for defense. Matthew 4:1-11.
He did not break Gods law for any reason. 2nd Corinthians 5:21, Hebrews 4:15.
He taught and encouraged others to be obedient as well.
He was not ashamed to be obedient.
He was obedient in all things, even when it meant His own death. Philippians 2:8.
