John and Romans Study
Part 2 The Gospel of John Continued
Only in John is Jesus called, the Word, the only begotten Son, and the Lamb. This Gospel alone identifies Him as Creator. The name of Jesus is used in Matthew 151 times, Mark 13, Luke 88, John 247 times. In more than 50 places in John He is said to be sent by the Father.
Only John has the soldiers falling in the garden. John 18:1-9
John omits the birth, boyhood, temptation, transfiguration, appointment of disciples, the parables, and the ascension, there was no agony on the garden in John.
Compare Luke (theme of Christ as a perfect man) with John in the garden account. Note some of the differences
John 16:29-18:24, Luke22:39-54
On the cross
Note Christ's final words
Matthew 27:46
Mark 15:37
Luke 23:46
None of this is recorded in John nor is there any word of the darkness that fell that day because in John Christ is portrayed as light.
God the Father does not say in John "this is my beloved son". But there are seven witnesses to Christ's Deity.

Verses to memorize this week:
John 6:68 " Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life."
John 17:17 "Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth."
For some reason good, well meaning, Christians will stop trying to memorize scripture as soon as (or even before) they enter high school. This could be because of a busier schedule, the fact they no longer get candy for it, or simply because they do not think that it's important enough to put forth the effort. For some it is harder than for others but I encourage you to be creative, write these verses on a page stick it to your door and don't leave your room without reciting them. You will be surprised how much easier it is than you may think to memorize God's word.
