Anger
Psalm 145:8 The LORD is gracious, and full of compassion; slow to anger, and of great mercy.
What we should know about anger
It can be avoided or produced by our words.
Proverbs 15:1 A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger.
It can be avoided or produced by our attitudes
Proverbs 15:18 A wrathful man stirreth up strife: but he that is slow to anger appeaseth strife.
The power to have control over your emotions is greater than power over others.
Proverbs 16:32 He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty; and he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh a city.
Gods anger is a result of our behavior
Psalm 78:32-42
Define: Anger
1. A violent passion of the mind excited by a real or supposed injury; usually accompanied with a propensity to take vengeance, or to obtain satisfaction from the offending party. This passion however varies in degrees of violence, and in ingenuous minds, may be attended only with a desire to reprove or chide the offender.
Anger is also excited by an injury offered to a relation, friend or party to which one is attached; and some degrees of it may be excited by cruelty, injustice or oppression offered to those with whom one has no immediate connection, or even to the community of which one is a member. Nor is it unusual to see something of this passion roused by gross absurdities in others, especially in controversy or discussion. Anger may be inflamed till it rises to rage and a temporary delirium.
Wrath:
Violent anger; vehement exasperation; indignation.
Does God still get angry?
Numbers 11:1
But this is Old Testament, this is Isreal, this doesn't pertain to us now.....really?
God is still angered by disobedience and sin (Malachi 3:6 "I change not")
Thankfully for us we are now under grace as the children of God.
Romans 5:19 For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.
Rom 5:20 Moreover the law entered, that the offence might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound:
Rom 5:21 That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord.
God's anger: Provoked by our sinful lives
Gods anger is righteous and produces right judgment against sin and unrighteousness, His anger is to be feared by His enemies and reverenced by His children. God will often chastise His children as a father, Hebrews 12:5-8 but this is not an act of anger or wrath.
Mans anger: often provoked against the righteous judgment of Gods word.
Mans anger should be
1. Not a surprise to a Christian 1st John 3:13
2. Not offensive to a Christian Luke 6:22-23
3. Never justly brought against a Christian Romans 12:18
Ephesians 5:8 For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light:
